ha
this ridiculous flier, making its rounds on facebook and on blogs, is funny for a number of reasons , but mostly because it's so clear that the creators just found the most flattering pictures they could of the republicans, and the most unflattering pictures they could of the democrats. look how unflattering of a picture they had to find of hillary clinton to attempt to make the quite absurd point that she is uglier than ann coulter. hardly anyone is uglier than ann coulter, let alone hillary clinton, who is fairly conventionally pretty. ann coulter has to hide behind sheets of greasy, ratty hair to appear at all unlike lurch from the addams family.

and laura bush is just mousy with an unfortunate haircut/face combination. i think this is the first instance of someone claiming she is hot.

also, give nancy pelosi a break. she looks completely normal. she's just making a face.

i considered wasting my time making a rebuttal about how democratic men are much hotter than republican men (john edwards! swoon. also, dennis kucinich is still my little alien-crush)--a rebuttal against the republican nitwits who made that flier, and a rebuttal against the notion that female politicians and politically involved people are judged for their appearances whereas men are not--but i have other things to do. so someone else do it.

john edwards is swoon-worthy! And don't even get me started on how handsome obama is. sigh. Even bill richardson has cuddle-factor.

Even when republican men are handsome, something feels evil and stepford-robotic about it. Like Mitt Romney. I suppose he is conventionally attractive, but his smile gives me the willies.

i agree on all counts. and mitt romney looks as if he is made of wood and metal.

maybe i will waste my time and make this when i get home. let's list democratic hotmen and republican uglymen.

democratichotmen:
obama
edwards
clinton (bill)

oh it's more fun to list republicanuglymen:
dick cheney
rush limbaugh
newt gingrich
george w. bush
ann coulter
guiliani is terrifying and a gremlin. i am always searching for a pokey green tongue coming out of his mouth
scalia
i need to look up big republican donors' photographs.

I will think of some more!!! They have to be famous, large-scale politicians I imagine? Some of the politicians I met working in NYC politics were sooo handsome. Like Daniel Garodnick, yum. And Hakim something or other in Brooklyn.

I like that ann coulter is a republicanuglyman.

i think they don't necessarily have to be politicians, but they do have to be famous. which is dumb, but i am going off of the original, to rebut it. barbra streisand isn't a politician. i think they just included her because of that bad picture.

i think governors, senators, and high-profile representatives count. and candidates for national office.

if Bo Derek is eligible-- she's an ACTRESS-- the number of smokin' hot Democratic actress and poltical women would overwhelm the Repub numbers. I guess there aren't as many Republican lawmaking women because they're where they belong, making babies and murmuring about how inept their hetero husbands are.

I believe that Donald Rumsfeld has since taken the helm of his secret skull-shaped island off the coast of Georgia somewhere. But, whether he is ruling his roost from the lofty summits of Fang Mountain, or fucking up far-flungm, sand-swept nations; he still goes down on record as one of the most repulsive, blathering gremlins in history. I am positive he has halitosis, just positive . . . and his spit is made up largely of hydrochloric acid, farts and dick sweat.

yet, he remains lovable? how do you not recoil in horror? his spectacular nature must really trump to not repulse friends while channeling someone so odious.
i would like to see it. i am afraid I may have a bout of immediate projectile vomiting though, on par with, say . . . Linda Blair or that scene from Problem Child 2.

Plus, for the road. Laura Ingraham has a retractable python's jaw and consumes sheep, minorities and Kathy Lee Giffords whole for dinner. Anne Coulter, if evicerated, would prove only sawdust and a foul smell of rotten horsemeat and month old cabbage.

edwired30, help. i am taking the GRE on november 8th. talk to me more about urban planning. where can i go to figure out which schools to which i should apply? i found the best program at charles university in prague, but you have to speak czech and my vocabulary is about 30, mostly foods.

Laura, i give you the sacred scripture of nerd
http://www.acsp.org/Guide/guide_index.htm
Click on: View the 13th Edition of the Guide (pdf)

this comprehensive guide lists all of the accredited programs. it helped me narrow by topic of particular interest, location, core program, etc. It gives you faculty names and contact info. it is all I used as I narrowed my search.

the website also has some "cute" literature to the ilk of "so you think you wanna be a planner, eh??" now for the yuck since I know you are in a weird career place. i strongly suggest you take some of your knowledge and join a board of directors, or heftily involve yourself, in a planning related cause (greenfield devt., enviro, design, neighborhood association, community devt. group). Even if you are most interested in cartography or design, you need to understand how graphic work gets used, who the audience is, and what the differences are in communicating in a new medium. You will find that there are plenty of differences.
See how you like it. A lot of the orgs will probably have a strong political agenda. not all planning is like that though- but it requires opinions, organization, a generalist's outlook and someone who is good at a lot of things, but not necessarily a specialist. not to blow smoke up your ass, but I think you could really succeed because from what I garner from your work and skill sets, you are the person I just described.

Planetizen.com is also I great resource with information on the field, schools, trends and current events

yes. environmental law is drier than one might think, considering all the goop. hence, i quit law. there are other, more interesting angles.

although one of my favorite books of all time, "a civil action" (which is way better than the movie, of course) is about the law side of an environmental disaster. the horrid chemicals that got in the water of woburn, massachusetts via wells G and H! tannery waste and machine cleansing lubricant from a grace foods plant! i shivered with glee when i realized that the grace foods building is TWO BLOCKS AWAY FROM WHERE I WORK RIGHT NOW. I PASS IT EVERY DAY!
